Davor Božinović addresses Velika Gorica escape and Omiš fire damage
Croatian Interior Minister Davor Božinović addressed several critical issues in Split, including the recent escape of a suspect in Velika Gorica. Božinović stated that the escape “certainly should not have happened” and announced that disciplinary proceedings will be initiated against police officers involved. The 47-year-old suspect, who was facing detention for suspected violation of children's rights, has since been apprehended in the Trešnjevka area of Zagreb.
Regarding the catastrophic fire in Omiš, Božinović reported that preliminary damage estimates are approximately 110 million euros. The investigation into the cause of the blaze is currently in the reconnaissance phase. To assist with recovery, the Croatian government has approved 20 million euros in emergency intervention funds, with additional aid expected once the full extent of the damage is documented.
