Davor Stojanoski wins Carinthia literature award in Austria

Macedonian writer Davor Stojanoski has been awarded the literature prize by the Austrian region of Carinthia (Kärnten/Koroška). This marks the first time the award has been granted to an author who was not born in the region and does not write in one of the two official local languages, German or Slovenian.

The award, which includes a sum of 5,000 euros, will be presented during a ceremony in Klagenfurt on December 4. The decision was made by the regional government following a proposal from the Carinthian Cultural Council.

Stojanoski, born in Skopje in 1987, is a novelist, poet, playwright, translator, and musician. His previous accolades include the ‘Novel of the Year’ from Utrinski Vesnik for ‘Sobrachi na pepel’ (2016) and being a finalist for the Slavko Janevski Foundation’s ‘Novel of the Year’ in 2021. He has also been nominated for the EU Prize for Literature.
