Dawid Tomala announces retirement from professional race walking
Olympic gold medalist Dawid Tomala has announced his retirement from professional race walking. The Polish athlete, who achieved a major sensation by winning the 50km walk at the Tokyo Olympics, confirmed his decision in an interview with Sport.pl.
Tomala does not intend to participate in a final competitive race. Instead, he plans to officially bid farewell to fans during the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial in Chorzów on August 23. He will be honored alongside Sofia Ennaoui, who is also retiring.
Throughout his career, Tomala secured 13 Polish senior championships and a European youth title. His career highlight remains his unexpected gold medal in Tokyo, a feat achieved despite facing significant financial difficulties during his preparations for the games.
