DAX index nears record highs amid geopolitical tensions

The DAX index remains near record highs, supported by robust corporate earnings and easing concerns regarding US interest rate hikes. After reaching a peak of 26,573 points on a Wednesday, the index has shown resilience, maintaining a year-to-date increase of nearly eight percent and a four-week gain of approximately 6.5 percent.

Geopolitical tensions remain a significant factor, particularly regarding the conflict between the US and Iran. US President Donald Trump’s recent announcement regarding the potential takeover of the Strait of Hormuz has provoked Iran and added uncertainty to the energy markets. Despite this, investors have shown a degree of detachment from the ongoing conflict, and oil prices, including Brent crude, have remained relatively stable around 88 dollars.

Market analysts, including Mislav Matejka of JPMorgan, maintain an optimistic outlook due to rising corporate profits and non-extreme investor positioning. However, some experts warn of potential risks stemming from high energy prices, seasonal weakness, and high valuations in sectors like semiconductors and AI.
