Federal Reserve raises interest rates to 3.75–4.00% range
The U.S. Federal Reserve has raised its benchmark interest rate by 0.25 percentage points, bringing the target range to between 3.75% and 4.00%. This marks the first rate increase since 2023. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh indicated that further hikes may be necessary to combat persistent inflation, suggesting the central bank is maintaining a firm stance despite political pressures.
Global markets reacted with mixed initial volatility but ultimately showed signs of recovery. In the United States, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.61% to 51,778.04 points, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq also saw gains. In Europe, the German DAX index rose by approximately 0.7%, supported by gains in the automotive sector, including Volkswagen, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz, as well as Siemens Energy.
Commodity markets were also impacted. Brent crude oil prices trended downward toward the $100 mark, aided by reports of potential pipeline repairs in Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, silver saw a significant rebound of 4.37% to $65.76 per ounce, and gold prices experienced fluctuations following the Fed's decision.
