DAX recovers to above 26,000 points following Fed signals
The DAX index recovered on Thursday, rising 0.6% to close at 26,003 points after three consecutive days of losses. This rebound was supported by comments from Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller, who suggested a potential pause in interest rate hikes at the September meeting if inflation continues to decline. Following these remarks, the probability of a US interest rate hike fell from approximately 62% to 54%.
Despite the stock market recovery, rising oil prices acted as a headwind. Brent crude climbed toward $97 per barrel following US attacks on Iran. Other notable market activity included Commerzbank announcing a share buyback of up to €1.2 billion and Deutsche Telekom benefiting from investment by Elliott. In the technology sector, Broadcom and HPE saw stock pressure despite raised revenue targets and record figures, respectively.
