Daycare closures in Campeche threaten 200 children and 60 jobs
The State Association of Daycare Centers in Campeche has warned that the potential expiration of contracts with the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) could lead to the closure of two daycare centers. This situation places approximately 200 children at risk of losing childcare services and threatens the jobs of between 50 and 60 workers.
One of the facilities identified as being at risk is Barquito de Papel. Beyond the immediate impact on families and staff, officials noted that the closure would result in a loss of roughly 15 million pesos annually in funding designated for childcare in the region. The economic ripple effect would also impact local suppliers of goods such as fruit, purified water, and gas.
On a broader scale, Elías Dájer Fadel, president of the National Daycare Working Group, warned that approximately 630 IMSS-linked daycare centers across Mexico could face contract expirations if an agreement is not reached by December 31.
