The company aims to mobilize up to 900 wagons—300 of which are available immediately—to compensate for the loss of approximately 200 inland vessels. German authorities have also responded by temporarily relaxing Sunday truck driving bans to facilitate land-based transport.

Economists, including Veronika Grimm, have warned that these transport disruptions could lead to significant price increases for consumers, specifically impacting the chemical and energy sectors due to difficulties in transporting oil to refineries. The situation has also forced companies like John Deere to suspend river transport for heavy machinery, shifting logistics to rail and road.
