DB Securities reports 49% rise in first-half net profit

DB Securities reported a significant increase in its first-half financial performance, with consolidated net profit reaching 70.8 billion won, a 49.4% increase compared to the same period last year. Operating profit rose 36.8% to 77.7 billion won. This growth was primarily driven by improvements in the wealth management (WM) sector due to a strong stock market and growth in the principal investment (PI) sector, despite reduced profitability in the bond sector caused by rising interest rates.

As a result of accumulated profits, the company's separate equity capital exceeded 1 trillion won for the first time since its founding. To further strengthen capital adequacy, the firm issued 150 billion won in hybrid securities in June, bringing its consolidated net capital ratio to 421.3%, a 77.4 percentage point increase from the end of last year. The company also plans to conduct demand forecasting for a public corporate bond issuance of up to 200 billion won next month.

Despite the positive earnings, the company faces regulatory challenges. DB Savings Bank, a subsidiary, is involved in a legal dispute with the Financial Services Commission regarding shareholder eligibility requirements. Additionally, DB Securities has faced recent administrative fines related to incomplete sales of financial products and violations of short-selling reporting obligations.
