Dąbrowa Białostocka bakery closes after 70 years, ending local tradition

The Piekarnia Gminnej Spółdzielni "Samopomoc Chłopska" in Dąbrowa Białostocka, Podlaskie, will cease operations on 10 August 2026, ending more than seven decades of continuous service. The bakery was famed for its round 1.5 kg loaf sold for 15 zł and a smaller version for 8 zł, attracting customers from the town and surrounding cities.

Rising production costs and intensified competition from large retail chains made the business unsustainable. In the final weeks, locals bought large quantities of bread to stock up, with some purchasing up to a dozen loaves to freeze for later consumption. The closure marks the loss of a cultural and economic fixture in the region.
