DC Comics struggles to replicate Marvel's Hulk success
DC Comics has struggled to create a successful analogue to Marvel’s Hulk, despite various attempts to replicate the popularity of the Green Goliath. While characters like Solomon Grundy have shared some similarities, DC’s attempt to create Marvel-style pastiches through the ‘New Age of Heroes’ line saw limited success.
The character Damage, originally introduced in the 1990s during the ‘Bloodlines’ event, is identified as a character that functions as a Hulk analogue. Grant Emerson, the first Damage, was the son of the Golden Age Atom and a member of the Freedom Fighters, but the character has faced challenges in finding a consistent role within the DC Multiverse.
