The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has arrested three suspects in connection with the fatal shooting of Nathan Masai Wasama, a 61-year-old businessman and Mt Elgon parliamentary aspirant. The incident occurred on the night of August 8, 2026, at Wasama’s shop in the Tuikut Trading Centre, located in Cheptais, Bungoma County.

According to investigators, four men arrived at the scene on two motorcycles. One passenger alighted, entered the shop, and shot Wasama before fleeing with accomplices. A woman was also shot during the attack and remains in stable condition at a local hospital.

Following intelligence-led investigations, detectives arrested Oscar Koech Sakong, Wycliffe Chesubei Ngeiwa, and Geoffrey Makwere Masai. A raid on a residence in Marigo Village yielded various items, including a stun grenade, a military-style smoke jacket, axes, a crowbar, pangas, knives, motorcycles, and mobile devices.

Wasama, a former Chesikaki councillor, had recently declared his intention to run for the Mt Elgon parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election. Police are continuing their search for a fourth suspect and working to establish a motive for the killing.
