DCI hunts cybercrime suspect Albert Komen after skipping court

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is hunting for Albert Komen Kipkechem, also known as Jonathan Kiptum Barmasai, following his failure to appear in court for cybercrime charges.

Komen is the primary suspect in a series of fraudulent activities that resulted in the loss of over Sh52 million for a payment service provider, a local bank, and a SACCO in June 2025. Investigators allege that Komen used remote access software to bypass standard payment procedures and gain unauthorized access to institutional systems.

During a previous search of his residence in Nakuru, detectives recovered electronic gadgets, SIM cards, ATM cards registered to other individuals, cash, and fraudulent identity documents, including a Congolese passport registered under a different name. Komen had previously been released on cash bail but has since failed to attend subsequent court proceedings.
