DDR5 memory faces surge in automated scalper bot activity
Automated scalper bots are significantly impacting the availability of DDR5 memory products. According to data from DataDome, up to 91% of traffic on DDR5 product pages at a specific retailer is generated by “bad bots.” This represents a ratio of approximately ten automated requests for every one legitimate human visit.
These bots utilize sophisticated techniques, such as cache-busting parameters, to bypass cached page renderings and obtain real-time inventory updates. This allows scalpers to monitor stock levels with extreme frequency; in one sample, listings were checked an average of 551 times per hour, or roughly every 6.5 seconds.
The activity is not limited to consumer gaming RAM. The scraping campaigns also target industrial memory providers, server and workstation modules, and components like DDR5-DIMM sockets, indicating that the pressure extends into B2B and industrial supply chains driven by demand from AI data centers and cloud providers.
