De Beers Group reports sustainability progress and India retail expansion

De Beers Group has released its 2025 Sustainability Report, detailing progress under its ‘Building Forever’ framework. Key achievements include a 14% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions compared to 2021 levels, moving toward a goal of reducing its carbon footprint by one-third by 2030. The group also reported its best occupational safety record to date, with a 19% decrease in total recordable injury rates and zero fatalities.

In conservation, the group manages 375,000 acres of land in Southern Africa and assisted in the designation of Angola’s first Ramsar international wetland. In Botswana, the joint venture Debswana reported the birth of its 70th rhino calf since 2012. Additionally, the Tracr blockchain platform has successfully scanned and registered 5 million rough diamonds to enhance supply chain transparency.

Separately, De Beers is targeting significant retail growth in India. The company plans to expand its Forevermark diamond jewelry network from 10 current outlets to 100 stores by 2030. This expansion aims to capitalize on a 13% average annual increase in diamond demand in India, driven largely by Gen Z consumers and rising female ownership of diamond jewelry.
