De Beers launches Desert Diamonds Icons campaign
At the JCK Las Vegas jewellery show on 15 June 2026, De Beers Group unveiled the Desert Diamonds Icons program, the next phase of its Desert Diamonds beacon initiative that began in late 2025. The campaign is intended to lift demand for natural diamonds, especially coloured stones, after the beacon effort already drove a 4 % rise in overall natural‑diamond sales at U.S. independent retailers in Q4 2025 and a 9 % increase in Q1 2026, with K‑to‑Z colour range growth of 15 % and 19 % in the same periods.
Icons will target four classic jewellery designs – stud earrings, eternity bands, tennis bracelets and halo pendants – which together account for about 70 % of diamond‑jewellery purchases. The products are set to launch in September, supported by retailer training, marketing material via Promoboxx and geo‑targeted campaigns that direct consumers to participating stores. De Beers says the initiative benefits from the largest natural‑diamond marketing budget in fifteen years.
CEO Al Cook emphasized strong consumer desire for natural diamonds while noting challenges from falling synthetic‑diamond prices. He added that the campaign aims to unlock further value for the sector. The presentation also highlighted GIA’s recent equity purchase in Tracr and a new strategy by the Natural Diamond Council to strengthen the natural‑diamond market.
