De Warande outdoor pool to close in Wetteren after 75 years

The De Warande outdoor swimming pool in Wetteren is scheduled to close permanently on Sunday, August 30, after nearly 75 years of operation. To mark the end of an era, the municipality has organized a farewell event for residents, featuring activities such as yoga, aqua zumba, an aperitif concert, and children's animation.

In addition to the closing day festivities, Erfgoed Wetteren will host a historical exhibition at the Huis van Bewaring from September 5 to September 8. The exhibition aims to recount the history of the pool and its significance to the local community over the decades.

The closure has met with local opposition; the Vlaams Belang party has planned a protest march to express dissatisfaction with the decision.
