De Wijngaard students launch E-waste Race collection

Students at De Wijngaard primary school in Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht are participating in the ‘E-waste Race’ to combat electronic waste. From September 21 to October 14, students from grade 6 will collect small electrical appliances, such as mobile phones, keyboards, and kettles, from local residents for free.

The initiative, organized by Wecycle and Race Against Waste in collaboration with several municipalities including Dordrecht and Papendrecht, aims to promote a circular economy by recovering valuable materials and preventing harmful substances from entering the environment. Participating classes earn points for collecting, reusing, and repairing devices, with the top class winning a school trip. Residents who contribute can also receive discount codes for Fairphone products.
