De Young Museum hosts rare ancient Egyptian treasure exhibition

The De Young Museum in San Francisco has launched the ‘Treasures of the Pharaohs’ exhibition, marking the first stop for the collection in the United States. The exhibit features more than 100 ancient Egyptian artifacts organized into six sections that examine Egyptian religion, government, and society.

Highlights of the exhibition include rare gold objects discovered in tombs, such as those from the intact tomb of Psusennes I of the 21st dynasty. These items, some dating back to 1000 BC, were intended to provide safety for the deceased in the afterlife. The collection includes artifacts representing both royalty and ordinary citizens.

Egypt's Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Sherif Fathi, noted that the exhibition showcases a mix of collections reflecting various levels of Egyptian society. Renee Dreyfus, curator at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, highlighted the significance of the archaeological discoveries included in the display.
