DEA Director Terry Cole has revealed a previously unannounced visit to Mexico City to meet with Mexico's Secretary of Security and Protection, Omar García Harfuch. The revelation came during the 40th International Drug Enforcement Conference (IDEC) in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where both officials emphasized their strengthened cooperation.

Cole highlighted a high level of coordination, noting that he and García Harfuch maintain daily communication and share intelligence to combat transnational criminal organizations, including the Sinaloa Cartel and the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). Cole also recounted receiving a direct call from García Harfuch following the successful February operation against CJNG leader Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as 'El Mencho'.

The operation against 'El Mencho' in Jalisco involved Mexican Special Forces and the Air Force, supported by U.S. technology. While the mission was a significant blow to the CJNG, it resulted in the deaths of 25 Mexican military personnel. Additionally, García Harfuch reported that Mexican authorities have dismantled 2,775 methamphetamine laboratories. The officials also discussed 'Operación Frontera Norte', which deployed 11,000 National Guard members to the U.S.-Mexico border.
