Dea e Butrintit returns to ancient Butrint after journey through Rome and Tirana

The archaeological artifact known as ‘Dea e Butrintit’ has returned to the ancient city of Butrint, the location where it was originally discovered. Albanian Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Sport, Blendi Gonxhja, announced the homecoming of the piece following its journey from Butrint to Rome and subsequently to the National Historical Museum in Tirana.

Gonxhja stated that the return of the artifact enriches the historical narrative of Butrint and allows visitors to witness a significant piece of European history and art firsthand. The Minister also noted that Butrint has hosted over 200,000 visitors this year, strengthening its status as a major cultural tourism destination in Albania. He expressed gratitude to the team involved in the re-museumization process and acknowledged the support of the Archaeological Association of Fundamenta de Butrint (AADF).
