DEA seizes over 2,000 pounds of methamphetamine hidden in cabbage

Federal agents have seized more than 2,000 pounds of methamphetamine concealed within a shipment of cabbage in the Rio Grande Valley. The operation was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) McAllen office as part of a Homeland Security Task Force investigation.

The investigation involved multiple agencies, including the FBI, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), U.S. Border Patrol (USBP), and the Texas Department of Public Safety. Visual evidence released by the DEA showed agents discovering tightly wrapped packages of the narcotic hidden beneath the outer layers of cabbage leaves.

While the scale of the seizure is significant, officials have not yet disclosed how the shipment was discovered or identified the suspects involved. No arrests or criminal charges have been announced at this time.
