IDEC Conference in Buenos Aires strengthens global drug trafficking cooperation
The 40th International Drug Control Conference (IDEC) in Buenos Aires, Argentina, brought together representatives from over 100 countries to coordinate strategies against transnational organized crime. Organized by the DEA and the Argentine government, the summit focused on strengthening international intelligence and law enforcement cooperation.
During the event, DEA Administrator Terrance Cole praised Argentina as a regional model for its fight against drug trafficking. He also characterized Mexican Security Secretary Omar García Harfuch as a ‘trusted partner,’ a significant gesture amid complex bilateral security relations between the U.S. and Mexico. Mexico reported a 51 percent reduction in intentional homicides during the first 22 months of its current administration.
Other key developments included the DEA recognizing Costa Rican Attorney General Carlo Díaz Sánchez for his country’s collaboration in combating narcotics. In Guatemala, Attorney General Gabriel García Luna confirmed continued U.S. support for specialized units targeting drug trafficking, money laundering, and corruption, including investigations into political structures linked to illicit activities.
