Dead Body Discovered in Tshikapa Triggers Unrest After Police Arrive
On the morning of 28 July 2026, a naked, lifeless body was found at the Dikoleshenu field in the Mbula Mputu neighbourhood of Tshikapa, Democratic Republic of Congo. The Congolese National Police (PNC) secured the site and handed the body to the family. Shortly after, a group of youths from Kabuatu armed with machetes and sticks stormed the area, moving the corpse and vandalising a police office, market stalls, restaurants and school latrines. A second police unit arrived from the nearby Kelé hill, prompting the demonstrators to flee and calm to return. The family later retrieved the body for burial. Authorities have opened an investigation to determine the cause of death and identify those responsible for the disturbances.
