Dead dog discarded in trash sparks outrage in Juiz de Fora, Brazil
A video showing a dead dog thrown into a trash pile in the Santa Terezinha neighbourhood of Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais, went viral on social media on 13 July 2026. Users expressed anger, with comments such as “What a lack of humanity” and “It should be treated with respect, not as garbage.”
The municipal authorities confirmed that the city's Urban Cleaning Department (Demlurb) was dispatched to the site, but the animal’s body had already been retrieved by the local animal‑protection service. Officials reminded the public that discarding a dead animal in regular waste is illegal, constitutes an environmental crime, and can cause health hazards.
The incident prompted the State newspaper to contact the Juiz de Fora city hall for details on any follow‑up measures, highlighting the community’s demand for stricter enforcement of animal‑welfare regulations.
