Deadliest Catch honors deckhand Todd Meadows following fatal Bering Sea accident
The season 22 finale of Discovery Channel’s ‘Deadliest Catch’ featured the tragic death of 25-year-old deckhand Todd Meadows. Meadows died on February 25 after falling overboard from the Aleutian Lady into the Bering Sea, approximately 170 miles north of Dutch Harbor, Alaska.
Footage from the episode showed Meadows participating in a FaceTime call with his three young children shortly before the accident. During the call, he responded to his daughter’s plea to stay safe by stating, ‘Oh, I’m being safe.’
Following the fall, Captain Rick Shelford maneuvered the vessel to recover Meadows. Despite the crew performing CPR for over 20 minutes, Meadows remained unresponsive. The death was ruled an accidental drowning with probable hypothermia. Meadows had previously been recovering from a severe concussion sustained on the same vessel one month prior to the incident.
