On 31 July 2026 a localized extreme weather cell struck the Saxon Switzerland region. A falling tree in Rathen killed a man and injured three others; ten more people required medical aid and about 40 were rescued. The storm also produced strong gusts and hail in Stuttgart, bringing down trees onto vehicles, power lines and a city‑tram, and prompted dozens of emergency responses across southern Germany.
