Deaf Action launches BSL interpreter booking feature for Fringe

Deaf Action has announced a new feature for the SignPort mobile app designed to help deaf festivalgoers book British Sign Language (BSL) interpreters for shows at the Fringe.

The app update provides a searchable catalogue where users can browse performances by venue or show type and request an interpreter for up to two performances per person. Currently, only approximately 2.4% of the more than 3,000 shows at this year’s Fringe are scheduled to feature BSL interpretation.

Once a request is submitted via the app, the Deaf Action bookings team coordinates with performers, venues, and available interpreters to facilitate accessibility. The initiative aims to reduce barriers and provide greater flexibility for deaf audiences seeking to access live performing arts.
