Dean Hall reflects on the life-changing success of DayZ
Dean Hall, the creator of the zombie survival game DayZ and founder of RocketWerkz, has reflected on the profound impact the game's success had on his life. Hall described the experience of DayZ's rise as something that “ended my old life,” noting that his personal relationships changed completely following the game's popularity.
Originally released in 2012 as a mod for Arma 2 and its expansion, Operation Arrowhead, the project's massive success led developer Bohemia Interactive to create a standalone version with Hall serving as project lead. In February 2014, Hall left the project to establish his own studio, RocketWerkz.
Since then, Hall's studio has released titles such as the VR strategy game Out Of Ammo and the space survival sim Icarus. His current project, Kitten Space Agency, is being developed using a contribution-based model where the game is free and funded entirely by player contributions.
