Hundreds gathered at the Kendal Conference Centre in Manchester for the funeral of former Cabinet Minister Dean Peart, who died on July 12 at age 77. Attendees included People’s National Party President Mark Golding, Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton, former Prime Minister P.J. Patterson, former Speaker Michael Peart, actress Sheryl Lee Ralph and other PNP stalwarts.
Patterson’s tribute highlighted Peart’s role in rebuilding the PNP in Manchester during the 1980s and praised his community‑development work: thirteen community centres, schools, roads, water infrastructure, playfields and a lasting scholarship fund. Peart had served as minister of labour, environment and lands, and local government, was a former mayor of Mandeville, and represented Manchester North Western from 1989 until his retirement before the 2011 elections.
