Dean Wendt praises horror-comedy film ‘Buddy!’
Dean Wendt, the former voice actor for Barney the Dinosaur, has publicly praised the new horror-comedy film ‘Buddy!’. In a video shared on Instagram, Wendt noted that while the film’s dark tone is not something the character Barney would typically enjoy, he found the movie hilarious and fun.
Directed by Casper Kelly, ‘Buddy!’ serves as a dark parody of 1990s children’s television. The plot follows a colorful show featuring an orange talking unicorn, where children who fail to participate in activities mysteriously vanish. The film stars Cristin Milioti and features voice work by Keegan-Michael Key as the titular character.
Wendt highlighted the film’s nostalgic elements, noting that the set design and fonts reminded him of his time working on children’s programming. He specifically commended the performances, stating, “Keegan did a great job with the voice. Just amazing performances all around.” The film, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival before its theatrical release, has received positive critical reception.
