DeAndre Hopkins accuses former Cardinals GM Steve Keim of drug test setup

NFL wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins has accused former Arizona Cardinals general manager Steve Keim of orchestrating a setup that led to a failed drug test. In a now-deleted Instagram comment, Hopkins claimed, “I got set up when I played for his team and lost 13 million. Skeme Slime was my GM, contaminated drug test go figure how that happened.”

The accusation refers to a six-game suspension Hopkins served in 2022 for violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing substances. While an independent expert previously suggested the banned substance likely originated from a contaminated supplement, the league upheld the suspension. The disciplinary action resulted in a significant financial loss for Hopkins, estimated by the player to be approximately $13 million in guaranteed money.

Steve Keim, who stepped down as Cardinals GM in early 2023 citing health reasons, has denied any involvement. According to reports, Keim told sources that it “would make no sense to do that to my player.” Hopkins, who has played for the Tennessee Titans, Kansas City Chiefs, and Baltimore Ravens since his departure from Arizona, is currently working as an assistant wide receivers coach at Georgia Tech.
