Dear You film achieves massive box office success in China

The film ‘Dear You’ (Thư Tình Gửi Bà Ngoại) has emerged as a major box office success in China, earning over 2 billion NDT after three months of release. Despite having a low budget and lacking A-list stars, the production has achieved a revenue return approximately 143 times its initial cost.

Directed by Lam Hong Xuan, the film utilizes parallel timelines to explore the lives of women navigating historical hardships and personal tragedies. The narrative follows Ye Shuru, an elderly woman holding onto letters from her long-absent husband, and Xie Nan Zhi, a resilient woman from the past whose connection to the husband creates a lifelong misunderstanding.

The film’s success is largely attributed to the breakout performance of 20-year-old actress Li Sitong. A former finance student with no formal acting training, Li has received significant praise for her ability to portray complex emotional transitions, drawing comparisons to established stars due to her naturalistic approach to the role.
