Dearborn faces potential extremist demonstrations

Tensions are rising in Dearborn, Michigan, as the American Muslim Political Action Committee (AMPAC) has called on Governor Gretchen Whitmer and state officials to take action against expected demonstrations. AMPAC warned that far-right extremists and white supremacist groups are expected to descend on the city on August 18, 2026, to target Muslim and Arab American residents.

Dearborn City Council President Michael Sareini noted that tensions are high ahead of a possible mob of anti-Muslim demonstrators attending a City Council meeting.

Separately, social media rumors claiming that Muslims in Dearborn demanded churches stop ringing bells on Sundays have been identified as false. While there have been past local disputes regarding mosque loudspeakers, no credible evidence supports the claim that residents demanded the silencing of church bells.
