Death Note remains culturally significant through market trends and school incidents
The anime series Death Note continues to impact various sectors two decades after its debut. In Portugal, the resale platform Wallapop reported a 79% increase in searches for Death Note-related items compared to the previous year, driven by collectors seeking manga, figures, and other memorabilia.
In a separate incident in the United States, a student at Chocksett Middle School in Sterling, Massachusetts, was suspended for three days after teachers discovered a notebook inspired by the anime containing the names of classmates. While the discovery prompted a police investigation, authorities stated there was no evidence of a concrete threat to the school or its students. The Sterling Police Department confirmed they do not intend to file criminal charges regarding the incident.
