Death Stranding 2 reaches 2.5 million sales amid Sony publishing shift

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach has reached approximately 2.5 million copies sold across PlayStation 5 and PC since its June 2025 release, generating an estimated $170 million in total revenue.

Data indicates that the PlayStation 5 version accounts for roughly 1.8 million sales and $129 million in revenue. While the title saw a strong start with nearly 1 million copies sold in its first two months, monthly sales experienced a significant decline, dropping from 722,000 units in June 2025 to fewer than 30,000 in August 2025. The PC version, released in May 2026, has sold approximately 550,000 copies.

These commercial figures coincide with shifts in Kojima Productions' publishing partnerships. Sony has reportedly ceased its involvement in publishing the espionage title Physint, allegedly due to rising production costs and a reluctance to commit a budget in the hundreds of millions of dollars. Following this decision, Kojima Productions has reportedly secured a publishing agreement with Microsoft for Physint.
