Deaths of senior military generals in Ivory Coast and Cameroon

General Aly Justin, a division general and deputy chief of staff of the Ivorian armed forces, died on 31 July 2026. The Vice‑Prime Minister and Minister of Defence announced his death in an official communiqué from Abidjan, expressing condolences to his family and the armed forces. Funeral arrangements have not yet been disclosed.

General Philippe Mpay, a division general of the Cameroonian armed forces, died on 9 May 2026. His funeral ceremonies began on 30 July 2026 in Yaoundé, with officials including the Minister Delegate to the Presidency for Defence attending. A wreath was placed on behalf of President Paul Biya and First Lady Chantal Biya. The body will lie in state before burial in his hometown of Eséka, Nyong‑et‑Kéllé.
