Deborah Mailman becomes first Aboriginal person inducted into Logie Hall of Fame

Australian actor Deborah Mailman has become the first Aboriginal person to be inducted into the Logie Hall of Fame. During her acceptance speech at the TV WEEK Logie Awards, Mailman expressed being ‘overwhelmed with pride’ and dedicated the honor to her parents for their lifelong support.

Mailman noted that her induction serves as an acknowledgement of the First Nations actors who paved the way for her career, including figures such as David Gulpilil and Ernie Dingo. She highlighted the importance of projects like ‘Redfern Now’, which were written, produced, and directed by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

In a tribute video, fellow actors Cate Blanchett and Miranda Tapsell praised Mailman’s contributions to Australian storytelling. Mailman, 54, is recognized for her iconic roles in productions such as ‘Rabbit-Proof Fence’, ‘The Sapphires’, ‘Offspring’, and ‘The Secret Life of Us’.
