Debrecen protest calls for shutdown of polluting factories and mayor's resignation
Residents of Debrecen gathered in front of the Old City Hall demanding the closure of factories accused of environmental pollution and the accountability of their owners. The demonstration, organized by the local "Mikepércsi Anyák a Környezetért" association, also called for the resignation of mayor László Papp and a comprehensive investigation into the alleged cover‑ups.
The protest took place amid a series of local grievances reported across Hungary, including rat infestations in Kecskemét, water‑level concerns in Szolnok, and ongoing debates about infrastructure projects in other towns.
Organisers stressed that the polluting plants pose health risks to the community and urged national authorities to intervene promptly.
