Debt collection claims rise in Sweden and Norway
New statistics reveal a significant increase in high-value debt collection claims in Sweden and Norway. In Sweden, the number of claims exceeding 25,000 SEK has risen by 41 percent over the past year. While the total volume of new debt collection cases has decreased by 5.8 percent, the severity of individual claims is growing. Senior citizens are being disproportionately affected, with the share of claims against individuals aged 65 and older rising to 15.8 percent.
In Norway, data from Kredinor indicates that inflation-adjusted debt collection claims against businesses have grown by 29 percent, signaling continued liquidity pressure within the corporate sector. To combat these financial challenges, the Norwegian hotel group Strawberry has partnered with the fintech company Inkassoregisteret. The collaboration aims to centralize information regarding incoming debt claims and payment remarks across the group's various legal entities to improve financial oversight and reduce unnecessary fees.
