Decaffeinated coffee health benefits compared to regular coffee
Decaffeinated coffee, which has had 97-99% of its caffeine removed, offers various health benefits similar to regular coffee. While the decaffeination process can reduce some antioxidant levels depending on the method used, nutrition expert Dolores Wood notes that the drink generally retains many health-protecting compounds.
Research indicates that both decaf and regular coffee drinkers show a lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Additionally, a 2022 study involving over 449,000 people found that all coffee drinkers, including those consuming decaf, had a lower risk of cardiovascular disease and mortality. However, a notable difference is that decaffeinated coffee does not appear to have the same association with reducing heart rhythm disorders as caffeinated coffee.
