Decathlon thermal case reduces smartphone overheating in cars
During hot weather, using a smartphone as a car GPS can cause the device to overheat, leading to reduced screen brightness, GPS shutdown, or complete power loss. The heat generated by the phone’s processor and battery, combined with solar heating inside the vehicle, can raise temperatures above the 40 °C threshold at which lithium‑ion batteries begin to degrade irreversibly.
To mitigate the risk, users can limit charging power, select the phone’s standard charging mode, keep battery levels between 20 % and 80 %, and avoid cable charging while the device is mounted on the windshield. Decathlon has introduced an insulated thermal case that blocks infrared radiation and keeps the phone at ambient temperature, using the same insulating materials found in food‑preserving containers. The case helps prevent battery chemistry damage and prolongs device lifespan during summer trips.
