Decatur police officer investigated for alleged Flock camera misuse

A Decatur police officer has been placed on administrative duty following allegations of misusing the city’s Flock automated license plate recognition system. The Decatur Police Department initiated an Internal Affairs investigation after learning of the potential misuse on June 12.

Police Chief Torry Mack has requested the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) to conduct a separate investigation to determine if any criminal violations occurred. The department has not yet identified the officer or released specific details regarding the alleged misuse, stating that information is being withheld to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigations.

This incident follows several other cases in Alabama involving the misuse of license plate reader technology, including recent investigations involving officers in Springville, Moody, and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
