Deceptive doorstep sales and impersonation scams on the rise

Consumers are facing increasing instances of deceptive sales tactics and impersonation scams. In Germany, door-to-door salespeople are reportedly using high-pressure tactics to sell fiber optic connections. These individuals often claim that existing cable or DSL networks will soon be obsolete or useless, pressuring residents to sign contracts immediately. However, the Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) has clarified that cable networks are not being shut down and will continue to provide internet, TV, and telephony services.

Similarly, in Switzerland, authorities are warning of sophisticated telephone scams where criminals impersonate police officers or government officials. These scammers often claim there is suspicious activity on a victim's bank account or that assets need urgent protection. By using official terminology and creating a sense of extreme urgency, they exploit the trust people place in law enforcement and financial institutions to steal money.
