Decimomannu Santa Greca festival triggers transport changes and resident protests
The historic Santa Greca festival in Decimomannu has prompted significant changes to local transportation and sparked debate among residents regarding urban mobility.
To accommodate the large crowds, the local transport company Ctm has increased service on Line 9 between 8:00 PM and 2:00 AM. The company is deploying 18-meter articulated buses with a capacity of approximately 150 passengers to provide an alternative to private vehicles. An additional night service, Line 9N, will also be active to assist with the extraordinary mobility needs of the event.
However, the festival has caused friction with local residents due to municipal ordinance 70, which imposes strict traffic and parking restrictions in the historic center through September 30. Major areas, including the exhibition center and Via Nazionale, face total closures or regulated access. Some residents have organized protests, citing the difficulty of accessing their own homes and parking near their residences during the festivities.
