Declic campaigns against controversial Romanian anti-NGO law

The Declic community has intensified its opposition to a controversial legislative proposal, referred to as the ‘anti-NGO law,’ through a new public awareness initiative. The organization released a video featuring actress Alina Petrică to highlight the potential risks of intimidation and harassment faced by citizens who financially support civic causes.

The legislative project, initiated by the AUR party and supported by the PSD, proposes that the National Agency for Fiscal Administration (ANAF) publish the personal data of individuals who donate more than 5,000 lei to non-governmental organizations. Critics argue this measure exposes honest donors to unjustified scrutiny and harassment.

To date, over 47,000 people have signed a petition from Declic contesting the project. The legislation has already been adopted by the Senate with votes from PSD senators, and PSD leadership has confirmed support for the measure in the Chamber of Deputies.
