DECO opposes taxi integration into TVDE transport regime

The consumer protection association DECO has expressed opposition to new regulations allowing taxis to operate within the TVDE (electronic platform-based transport) framework. DECO argues that the two regimes have substantial differences, specifically regarding public service obligations such as the use of taximeters, the ability to pick up passengers on the street, and access to bus lanes.

The association warns that merging these activities could cause confusion for both consumers and inspectors, potentially leading to a lack of transparency and a shortage of available taxis. While the new law introduces stricter licensing requirements, mandatory vehicle registration with the IMT, and increased fines to prevent fraud, DECO maintains it fails to address core consumer complaints, such as service cancellations after long wait times and issues regarding improper billing.
