Deco Proteste food basket costs 252.62 euros in Portugal

The cost of the food basket monitored by the consumer protection organization Deco Proteste decreased by 0.94 euros over the last week, reaching a total of 252.62 euros. This follows a previous increase of 1.48 euros in the preceding week.

The basket, which comprises 63 essential goods including meat, dairy, fish, fruits, and vegetables, has seen varying price fluctuations. Between August 19 and August 26, Frankfurt sausages rose by 16% to 1.97 euros, cooked chickpeas increased by 15% to 2.14 euros, and fresh hake rose by 8% to 11.09 euros per kilogram.

Long-term data shows significant price shifts since early 2022. Since January 5, 2022, the most substantial percentage increase was observed in veal meat for cooking, which rose 118% to 12.68 euros per kilogram. Other notable long-term increases include cabbage (91%) and large cod (86%).
