DEDDIE worker injured during Argolis wildfire response
A large wildfire swept through the Argolis region of Greece, damaging power lines and other electrical infrastructure. While crews from the state electricity operator DEDDIE worked to restore the network, a worker was crushed by a burning tree trunk that fell during the operation. The incident occurred on the morning of 1 August 2026 in the village of Fihtia. Emergency services, including the fire brigade and the rescue unit EKAB, responded quickly, providing first aid and evacuating the injured man to the Hospital of Argos for treatment.
The fire, which had already destroyed columns, cables and other installations, forced the technical teams to operate under hazardous conditions, with weakened trees and debris posing additional risks. Authorities are investigating the exact circumstances of the tree’s collapse.
