DEDECON and PUCV host seminar on tax education and citizenship

The Defensoría del Contribuyente (DEDECON) and the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (PUCV) organized a seminar titled “Tax Education and Citizenship: Challenges for a New Contributive Culture.” The event brought together academics, public officials, and students to discuss the importance of early education in fostering citizens who are aware of both their fiscal duties and their rights as taxpayers.

The seminar featured two main panels. The first included Hugo Sánchez from DEDECON and Gonzalo Polanco from the University of Chile, focusing on the challenges of implementing tax education from the school and university levels. The second panel included representatives from DEDECON, such as Viviana Osorio and Emilio Moreno, alongside Christian Soto from the Servicio de Impuestos Internos (SII) and academic Antonio Faúndez. Experts concluded that early education is essential for creating an informed and responsible taxpayer base.
